My Secret Skill

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 1:28 pm

Here’s your chance to get all of your skeletons out of the closet & tell all of cyberspace some of the really whacky stuff that you are good at that wouldn’t necessarily appear on your C.V. This post has been inspired by the advent of crazy T.V. shows that celebrate the incredibly ordinary & obscure for what they are. (more…)

Christians & Social Skills

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 10:50 am

Okay, here’s the disclaimer; this is not a “Christian bashing” exercise; I was thinking about how Christians interface with the world when the question rose up in me that went something like “do a lot of Christians suffer from a lack of social skills, hence making their interface with the world around them more difficult than it should be?”
Many people with problems end up in churches. It’s a factor that is relevant to church life over & over again; I remember working with Fr Barry Moran in Frankston in the early 80’s & he basically alluded to the notion that if the marginilised didn’t feel welcome at church, where else was that going to happen? What’s the chance of that?

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 7:31 am

You know we all have those moments where something obscure happens, sometimes to you, sometimes in front of you, sometimes you just hear about it, & all you can do is respond with “man, what’s the chance of that!!” Martin & Molloy (2 Melbourne comedians) used to do a similar thing but their catch phrase was “what’s all that about?”
Well, here is my version; feel free to add yours; my only request is that at the end of your entry, you have to finish with “What’s the chance of that?”

  • You’re in a room on your own; you’ve been on your own for 20 minutes; you let rip a subtle fart, & the moment that you do, someone walks into the room
  • You barrack for Richmond & they win a grand final
  • You race to get to an event on time only to find out that it is starting late

    Christian Tattoos

Filed under: uncategorised — Sweetums @ 7:27 pm

I have always been fascinated with Tatoos. I can’t help staring if I notice someone has one. And I always want to know what inspired them to put something on their body that will be there for life.

I have fantasised about where I would put one and what it would be. When I was 16 I wanted a little green caterpillar tatooed on my stomach! Thankfully maturity kicked in before my bank balance allowed me to go through with it! I can just imagine a Giant Green Caterpillar stretched around my pregnant belly and what would it look like now post baby! Eeerk! (more…)

Memorable Meals; more than just food!

Anyone who knows our family knows that food & mealtimes are an important part of how we do life. Bernie & I love to prepare a great meal for an occasion. Much planning & fussing will go into moment, with the aim always being to really give people not just a good meal but a good experience. I’ve come to understand that a great meal is not just about great food. In my mind, it’s about the food, the setting, the occasion, the wine, the music, the loving preparation & most important, the company that you share this experience with. I have had many memorable meals; one from Easter in the early 80’s, (more…)

Compassion Fatigue? The crisis of giving

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 8:46 am

Slick ad campaigns; well thought out marketing programs; images deliberately designed & placed to evoke an emotional response. Welcome to the world of professional fund raising.
There was a great episode of MASH where the character of BJ was being interviewed; he was asked if the experience of being a medico in Korea had changed him at all. He responded that on his first day there. he performed his first amputation before he had his first breakfast; now he could walk past a whole corridor of wounded & not even notice. (more…)

    Has anyone seen my……

You know the scene; you are walking out the door (late as usual) & that critical thing that you have been looking for is missing; your keys, your wallet, your phone, your lunch, your sanity!!!
I have tried to be methodical about this; you know, “I will put my keys in the same place every night!” Yeah, right buddy, but they are not in that same place when you wake up. I swear that there must be a secret lunch room for critical items, & when you leave the house, they all congregate for a cuppa & a bikkie right at the time when you need them to be in the place that you left them. I think that this must be true coz when my wife starts helping me to look for them after I have done my “tarzanesque” jungle call, she goes stright to the place that I told her I left them, & shazaam, there they are. Courage to take the next step

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 2:06 pm

headwall_0031.jpgFrom time to time I get asked to preach in our local church; I have a message rattling around in my head at the moment & I thought I would post the bare bones of the idea in this forum for all of us to discuss thereby helping me to develop the topic. The topic that has got me going is the title of this post, i.e. courage to take the next step. Here is a bit of what I’ve been thinking. (more…)

Where have you been, my blue eyed son?

Filed under: uncategorised — The Scot @ 10:04 am

    hey there Won Voice people

You will have noticed that there has not been a lot of activity on the site the last couple of weeks. This is mainly due to 2 reasons
1- For the last 4 weeks I have had very limited access to the net due to my laptop deciding that it’s life on this world was over. (Here is a moments pause whilst I grieve for my recently departed Asus, servant of the poor & the hungry,)
2- As many of you will know, Saturday the 12th May saw the launch of our new album Twilight Waltz. (It’s been in all of the papers!) So the weeks prior to that event were all consuming as we prepared all of the resources needed to make that night happen

Many thanks to all & sundry who either took part in the preparation & planning, or who just supported the night by turning up.

But, we are back & firing; ready to invade Cyberspace put out more articles that we hope will both stir & stimulate some thinking & discussion.
First though, here is some relevant Won Voice Creative News. (more…)

    Twilight Waltz

Filed under: uncategorised — Sweetums @ 1:10 pm

Let me be the first to say congratulations to Mick and Bernie and the whole darn McIvor clan for such a successful Album launch on Saturday night.

It was a pleasure to be amongst the exclusive guests there that night. I felt priviledged to be a part of it. The night was so professionally put together and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I feel special mention should be made of Sarah McIvor for her fabulous song “Summer Storm”. (more…)
