A few words about Mick McIvor

At 47 years old, Mick can claim nearly 30 years involvement in the Church creative arts scene. His life has allowed him the privilege of working with many people across practically every denomination & tradition.

Although an accomplished performer & songwriter in his own right (he is still putting out albums & performing) his work goes much deeper. From 1988 – 2001 he served as the Director of an Acts 2 styled community. As they lived & worked together, they also ran hundreds of retreat programs for schools, leadership & church groups all over Victoria. Within that era, he also developed & ran hands on workshops with church music teams that simply wanted to get better at what they did.

His creative savvy has seen him develop some amazing programs over the years. From his own album launches, to being creative director of events such as Upper Yarra Carols, Easter Awakening, as well as being a creative contributor to the Careforce Arts Teams, working alongside people such as Helena & Jay McNeil & Pastor Al Meyer. One of the events that Mick speaks fondly of is the planning & running of two “Founders day” events for an outer suburban Melbourne College. A brief Summary of the event below (in Mick’s Own words) will give you some insight into the length & breadth of what we offer.

“A chance meeting over a coffee with the Principal (Liam Davison) saw the beginning of a rewarding collaboration. Liam contacted me afterwards & commissioned me to put together a Creative event that would allow the 1000+ students & staff to feel like they were part of the day. With 3 months lead time, I began meeting with key staff & cross sections of the students as we began researching the attitudes of the students towards the school’s history & the place that this had in the bigger scheme of their lives. The whole day was to be underpinned by the scripture “Cast your nets out into deeper water” (Luke 5). Once we had a framework for the day, we then set about writing songs, scripts for drama’s, & we also videoed about 20 staff & students musing about various aspects of their life at the school. My good mate Mike Emmett then set about making a cartoon of the students over their spoken thoughts. We also commissioned some dance. The last month was spent rehearsing the music, drama’s & dance with the various Students & teachers that were chosen to be part of this. On the day of the event, the students walked into their auditorium which was now decked out with a concert P.A. lighting & staging, & proceeded to watch their fellow students & teachers for the next 2 hours, as they presented their version of the history of the school (as told to us) & its relevance to them in song, story, drama, dance & audio visual. It was a very rewarding experience to be a part of”.

For the last 4 years, Mick has served as Creative Arts director at River Valley Church in the Yarra Valley (where he lives with his wife & 4 children). Although he still attends & serves there, he has moved on from that role & currently occupies the role of music director. He is trying to free up his time so that he can get back out in the wider field & do what he does best i.e. playing his own music, & helping developing teams to get better at what they do.

If you have a need in your church to further develop your Arts teams, Arts leaders &/or Arts strategies, but you haven’t been able to progress beyond the desire to get better, then maybe a simple call could be the start of another great collaboration. We simply love talking with creative people, & if there is a way that we can help you get better at what you do, then how cool would that be?

There are all sort of ways that we can get involved & you could have all of that life experience at your service; here are just a few suggestions

  • Why not invite the band “Mick Mc & Won Voice” to come play at your church service?
  • Why not think about asking Mick to conduct a retreat for your all of your church leaders?
  • Why not set up a meeting where all of the interested Creative people in your organization can get together and speak their minds?
  • Why not invite Mick & his team to come to a series of your rehearsals & workshop your bands & singers?
  • Planning a creative event? Why not ask Mick to come for a consultation to get the absolute best out of what you can do?
  • Mick has a passion and an ability to get alongside creative arts teams & leaders of all ages & abilities, & help them get the most out of their involvement. At the very least, give us a phone call; we would love to connect with you & your church & hear your passions & your dreams; at the very most, maybe we could get alongside you & help you move towards achieving some of these things.

    Bye for now
